About Moose Mountain Inn

About the Inn

Built by Harry and Mary Genest in 1971, the Greenwood Motel flourished during the golden years of Squaw Mountain ski resort, both because of its close proximity to the mountain and its unique chalet style appeal. For most of its time however it has been owned and caringly managed by the Edwards Family until they retired in 2008.

During the summer of 08’, the Greenwood was purchased by local business owner Mike Boutin, owner of Northwoods Outfitters in Greenville. Because of the outdoor oriented nature of Northwoods Outfitters we are excited to combine our extensive selection of outdoor recreational activities with value priced lodging. It is both businesses common goal to provide our customers the best Northwoods experience for your next Maine vacation.

Moosehead Lake History

It wasn't until the late 1700's that the white man came to the Moosehead region. In 1764, a surveying party from Massachusetts visited the area. While the first white man to view Moosehead Lake is not known, it wasn't until 1824 that a settlement began at Greenville. Within decades, settlements throughout the woods began to spring up, some with no more than a handful of hardy people. Please visit the Moosehead Historical Society for more information.
